1 Month Later: JGO Campus Update and How You Can Help

November 14, 2023

From the White House, to Wall Street, to Ivy League boardrooms, everyone is talking about Jewish students on campus and what to do to help them.

Far fewer are those talking with Jewish students on campus about what to do to help them.

Fortunately, we are! For the last 12 years JGSI (or JGO, as you may have noticed) has painstakingly built a network connecting student associations at 130 campuses across North America and thousands of alumni, attorneys, and executives and instilling them with Jewish values and identity. This critical moment has proven how important that ongoing work has been, now more than ever, and this week we will be raising crucial funds to fight campus antisemitism.

Because today, grad students are not alone to fight this battle. JGO and our supporters have their back.

Since October 7, JGO staff and our students on the front lines have risen to the occasion, springing into nonstop concrete action amidst the chaos to promote Jewish pride and combat the rising antisemitism on campus. Here are just some examples of our accomplishments of the last month (learn more at thejgsi.org/antisemitism).

Student Engagement

  • Immediate outreach and wellness checks on hundreds of student leaders and alumni nationwide
  • Mentored and assisted students in speaking to administration about antisemitism concerns
  • Helped students craft public statements on Israel and antisemitism and respond to hateful messaging
  • Shipped care packages to campuses around North America containing Israeli swag and advocacy materials for 1,500 students
  • Provided grief counseling, emotional support, and referral to mental health services for students experiencing crisis

Increased Programming

  • Doubled down on our hundreds of regular campus programs promoting Jewish identity‍
  • Vigils, rallies, briefings, and speaker and educational events in support of Israel and Jewish students on more than 60 campuses
  • We are offering Krav Maga self-defense courses to grad schools across the country with 21 campuses participating so far
  • Solidarity Shabbats and Charity Mixers in New York and Los Angeles attracting hundreds of students to each

Partnerships

  • Partnered with Hillel, Chabad, and more than 18 other Jewish organizations on #JewishStudentsUnite, a virtual event drawing 20,000 university students worldwide
  • Held regular meetings and briefings with advocacy partners including the Federation Campus Impact Network (CIN), the Anti-Defamation League, and others
  • Partnered with Community Security Service (CSS) to receive critical updates and briefings on campus security
  • Guided our JGO campuses in fundraising thousands of dollars toward Israel relief efforts
  • Offered travel subsidies for student leaders to attend JFNA's March for Israel in Washington DC

Activism

  • Joined top law firms led by Gibson Dunn and organizational partners on the Campus Antisemitism Legal Line (CALL), providing free legal representation to those facing campus antisemitism
  • Activated our network of thousands of attorneys to brief them on incidents at their alma maters, share recommendations, and solicit pro bono help
  • ‍Leveraged our relationships with key university donors to take action at the highest levels of administration
  • Shaped public opinion among the Jewish executive community by sending regular updates and opinion pieces to thousands of constituents with timely thought leadership
