Sara Rotter joined the firm in the fall of 2011, and in her role as EVP and Managing Director of Sales, she is responsible for the continued success and strategic growth of the Village, Flatiron, and SoHo offices of Brown Harris Stevens.
Sara is both sincere and serious about building her agents' careers. With her own extensive knowledge and experience as a former agent and nearly two decades of managing hundreds of agents, she excels as a non-selling manager who understands the challenges of making real estate a full-time career.
She strives to not only teach agents, but to keep their focus consistent, their motivation high, and their eye on the big picture so they can continually reinvent themselves in their business. Sara provides her agents with valuable insight and suggestions on how to leverage the unique talents they each possess so they can apply them to this business and develop their own craft, helping them achieve their goals.
To do this, Sara offers a hands-on management style and unique sales approach based on the all-encompassing philosophy that customer service and satisfaction come first. She conducts one-on-one business development and marketing brainstorming sessions with individual agents, as well as small-group, in-office training sessions and intensive workshops that address specific topics applicable to real estate, from the psychology of sales to the actual processes that need to be in place to succeed at winning business. Sara also believes today's agents must add value. She encourages her team to learn the different neighborhoods and preview available inventory, "so you can be adaptable and knowledgeable in any market condition, no matter what your clients demand."
Her passion for teaching and sharing her experiences goes beyond Brown Harris Stevens. Sara is flown to Chicago a few times a year by the prestigious Leading Real Estate Companies of the World to speak to a large group of managers from all over the country.
At Brown Harris Stevens, Sara serves on the Education Committee to contribute ideas to keep the curriculum both relevant and engaging. Most recently, she helped spearhead a wellness program to add health education to the firm's ongoing training platform. One of her greatest pleasures is serving as the co-team leader for Helping Hands, a philanthropic foundation established to give back and better the daily lives of those in need through action-based support for local, community-focused not-for-profits in the marketplaces Brown Harris Stevens serves on the corporate, local-office, and agent levels.
Prior to Brown Harris Stevens, Sara served as the Senior Managing Director for the Gramercy, Flatiron, Chelsea, and West Village offices for Citi-Habitats for more than 8 years. As a result of her hard work and dedication, the offices thrived under her direction and she produced more than $1.3 billion in sales during her time at the firm.
A New York City native, Sara intended to be a doctor after completing her pre-medical program at Harvard University. She got her start in real estate in Boston where she quickly became the top-producing agent in the city's finest real estate firm. During her last six months there, she was handpicked by a major developer to work as the exclusive, on-site agent in Boston's premier Manhattan-styled luxury loft building. Even in one of the slowest markets, Sara was able to achieve 60% occupancy within three months after the completion of construction.
Sara is an active member of the Real Estate Board of New York (REBNY) serving as Co-Chair of the Membership Committee and an advocate for anyone who wants to make real estate a gratifying career. She also deeply believes in giving back to the community, which is why she consistently gives over 10% of her income to various charitable organizations in addition to her time coaching and mentoring aspiring youth.
