Gary is considered one of the most respected leaders in the marketing industry. Retired from IIM, Gary now actively leverages his wealth of successful experiences through speaking engagements and projects to help business of all sizes prosper. Gary has had multiple speaking engagements at major universities (Northwestern/Medill, NYU and Booth) as well as helping businesses including Cargill, Morgan Stanley, Post Brands, The Chicago Professional Network, Vistage CEO Network and National Conference for Temple Executives. Gary is a returning judge for Booth’s New Venture Challenge at the Polsky Center for Entrepreneurship (a top ranked accelerator program), was Emcee for the American Marketing Association’s Brand Smart conference as well as a top-ranked speaker. He recently led a CEO panel for Booth alumni & students on Driving Growth Through a Well-Designed Strategy.

Known for his visionary leadership, out-of-box thinking and creativity, Gary provides clients the critical edge necessary to win in extremely competitive marketplaces by identifying deeper, more compelling insights leading to pragmatic, winning strategies. Peers nicknamed him “The Professor” due to his ability to identify “aha insights” and share key lessons with clients and colleagues. Recently, others have referred to him as their “Marketing Whisperer” as he guides senior managers, helping them grow their businesses and drive their careers.

Gary’s experience spans consulting, brand marketing, advertising and marketing research for multiple markets, among them packaged goods, food, beverage, financial services, insurance, alcoholic beverages and not-for-profits. His counsel has been sought by companies like MillerCoors, CDW, Gerber, General Mills, Liberty Mutual, Pepsico and S.C. Johnson. Gary’s ability to guide others has resulted in him being mentor to many for many years as well as a sought-after speaker. Recent speaking topics include “Powerful Brand Positioning – Kicking Butt and Winning Through Emotional Connections,” “Rocking Consumer Insights; Seeing The not so Obvious,” and “Shark Marketing.”

Prior to IIM, Gary was a Management Consultant for The Cambridge Group, specializing in positioning and developing new product concepts. He was Account Supervisor at Leo Burnett on the Kellogg’s business (responsible for Frosted Flakes, Raisin Bran, Special K and other brands). Prior to Burnett, Gary was in brand management at Kraft working in their Maxwell House Division.

Gary is a co-founder and now an honored Trustee of The Center for Enriched Living, a charity he co-founded to enrich lives of people with developmental disabilities, and has raised $10.5+ million to support operations and as head of their Capital Campaign effort. He also serves on the Board of a large charity foundation helping the under-served of Chicagoland and is a VP sitting on Temple Jeremiah’s Board and Executive Committee.

Gary has an MBA from the University of Chicago and a BS in Advertising from the University of Illinois.
