SVP, Head of Scripted TV; Jada and Will Smith’s Westbrook Studios

David Boorstein is currently the SVP, Head of Scripted TV for Jada and Will Smith’s Westbrook Studios. Westbrook Studios is a subsidiary of Westbrook Inc., the media company launched in 2019 by founders Jada Pinkett Smith, Will Smith, Miguel Melendez and Ko Yada, focused on empowering artists to tell stories that connect with a global audience. Led by Co-Presidents, Jon Mone (Film) and Terence Carter (Television) Westbrook Studios is home to the Jada Pinkett Smith, Willow Smith and Adrienne Banfield-Norris, Emmy® nominated Facebook Watch series, "Red Table Talk" and is rapidly expanding its footprint in entertainment, serving as the studio home to all new premium TV and motion picture projects. On the film side, upcoming Westbrook Studios projects include the remake of the 1980s classic PLANE, TRAINS, & AUTOMOBILES starring Will Smith and Kevin Hart, EMANCIPATION which sold to Apple in the largest film festival acquisition deal in film history, and the highly anticipated KING RICHARD based on the life of Richard Williams, father to tennis greats Serena and Venus. On the TV side, Westbrook Studios recently landed an unprecedented two-season order from Peacock for Bel-Air the dramatic reboot of Will Smith’s iconic ‘The Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air’ based on Morgan Cooper’s 2019 viral short film.
Boorstein was previously the President of Television for Antoine Fuqua’s Fuqua Films where he oversees development and production of original content for TV, scripted and unscripted, in multiple genres. Boorstein serves as Executive Producer of FOX’s, THE RESIDENT, starring Matt Czuchry and Emily VanCamp. He also served as Executive Producer on Quibi’s first scripted series, #FREERAYSHAWN starring Laurence Fishburne and Stephan James. Boorstein also served as the creative lead in a Co-Studio venture between Fuqua Films and Sony Television on the project. He also served as producer of the drama series, ICE, for Audience Network and help shepherd the TV adaption of Fuqua’s Film, TRAINING DAY for Warner Bros. TV and CBS.
Boorstein was previously the Vice President of Television at FilmEngine. There, Boorstein oversaw the pilot development of BUTTERFLY EFFECT, the TV series by Peter Hume for CTV.
Prior to FilmEngine, Boorstein served as the Director of Development at Dare To Pass, Anthony Zuiker’s (creator of the CSI franchise) production company. In TV, Boorstein developed projects under company president Matt Weinberg, and Zuiker, for CBS Studios and ABC Studios under Dare To Pass’ first-look deals with both. Boorstein also worked on projects set up at CBS, ABC, TNT and Nickelodeon. Additionally, Boorstein served as co-producer and associate producer of Zuiker’s digi-novels, Level 26: Dark Revelations and Level 26: Dark Prophecy.  Within the digital space, Boorstein co-produced several thriller, horror, and sci-fi short films for the YouTube channel BlackBoxTV.
Boorstein is a graduate of Indiana University and a Detroit native.
