Rabbi Matt Rosenberg
COO, Jewish Graduate Student Initiative
Rabbi Matt Rosenberg grew up in Portland, Oregon. As one of the few Jews in his public school, he was inspired to further his Jewish education by spending a gap year in Israel. He continued on to Yeshiva University in New York, where he graduated magna cum laude and was a National Merit Scholar. After completing a Master’s in Talmudic Law, he also earned his JD cum laude from Georgetown Law where he was a senior editor of the Georgetown Journal of Law and Public Policy, all while completing his Rabbinic Ordination at Ner Israel Rabbinical College.
Rabbi Matt then practiced corporate finance and M&A law at Milbank, Tweed, Hadley & McCloy LLP in Washington DC, and served as an Adjunct Professor at Georgetown Law teaching the Jewish Law Seminar. There he recognized the huge demand for Jewish engagement in law schools, and after relocating to LA in 2015, left his law practice to join the Jewish Graduate Student Initiative full-time.
As COO, Rabbi Rosenberg oversees all programmatic, operational and educational initiatives at JGSI and is responsible for executing the organization’s strategy and vision.
He and his wife Sabrina have been involved in Jewish communal and educational work for two decades, including positions at Hillel at Johns Hopkins University and one of the largest synagogues in the New York area, and as scholars-in-residence in Jewish communities around the world. They live in Los Angeles with their four children.
