My name is Hui Yang, and I am a 3rd-year law student at the University of Arizona James E. Rogers College of Law. I was not born or raised Jewish. I happened to choose a Jewish Studies class during my freshman year in college and spent the following summer in Israel. I remember the moment I stepped on the land, I felt home and could never look back. In 2017, I graduated from the University of Washington with a degree in Jewish Studies. While in college, I spent two summers in the Middlebury School of Hebrew studying Modern Hebrew immersively. During and after college, I was very active in the Seattle Jewish community. I've worked for a local synagogue, the Federation, the JCC, and the Palm Beach Jewish Community Study project, while also volunteering at many Jewish organizations and events. I enjoy learning new things about the culture, the people, and the religion every day. This past summer, I was very fortunate to be a part of the Nishma program at the Jewish Theological Seminary. Having always been interested in Jewish Law, I was amazed by everything I learned from the Talmud class. During my free time, I enjoy dance, movies, and museums. I believe the pursuit of justice is inherently a part of Judaism. Thus my belief has always been pushing me to do good for the people and society. This year, I am the president of the Jewish Law Student Association at my law school. I am hoping to create a safe harbor for Jewish students, build more and deeper connections with the law school and local communities, and bring in exciting speakers for both Jewish and non-Jewish law students.
